His name came to me immediately and certainly. He is standing so sure and strong. The colors of this painting are rich and highly saturated with energetic marks of oil pastels throughout. (This is the kind of thing that makes original art so uniquely beautiful.)
I started the canvas with a crazy vibrant slightly orange red, then added something else—a cherry red? I can’t remember—and ended up with a perfect barn red. Once the background colors were added, the red begged to remain. Although he’s an Irish cow in reality, the colors speak to me of farm implements, red barns and classic Americana.
