About

Oklahoma City has been home for most of my adult life, but I spent my childhood with one foot in the middle of Dallas, and the other in my family’s Polled Hereford ranch in Emory, Texas. I share a love of the arts with both of my grandmothers, and this love was nurtured by both my mom and aunt.

As I reflect back, art has been there all along and taken different forms throughout my life, but the painting obsession began toward the end of a full career in higher education finance. The other side of my brain most definitely was looking for expression and freedom!

Texas wildflowers, blackberries, sandy garden rows, and the white-faced cows on my grandparent’s farm, are enduring images of beauty from my childhood. Those farm scenes, and really all of nature, family and faith are inspiration close to home.  I also draw from travel experiences, especially coastal locales and the southwest/desert landscape, as favorite subjects for my paintings and photography.

From the beginning I have worked with acrylic paints and have not yet strayed. I find the medium so versatile and applicable to my wish to add layers to a quick drying surface. My painting practice is so much more about expression, freedom and experimentation, that I prefer not to work with anything I consider too fussy.

While acrylics are almost always at the center, my paintings may also include many other elements like charcoal, oil pastels, found objects or natural materials tied to the subject or place I am painting. My artwork also includes photography, and I have loved discovering collage made with acrylic skins from my paint palettes.

My hope is that the art I create will bring to mind a special memory or feeling of freedom, adventure, joy, hope or childhood. Some of the same things which are a reflection of the glory of God and His character and bring us closer to seeing our world in the way it was first meant to be.

Something to note: While my work has been awarded and published, I rely more on the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit than on the opinions of galleries, shows etc. 

My faith as well as my age and experience have given me a certain confidence and lack of fear in moving about the art world. I greatly value the relationships and people who have been placed in my path through the gift of art. Also, I have realized the great well of love gifted to me from all my grandparents, which is something I hope to leave with my children and grandchildren, as well as others I meet.
