Buff, or as a more endearing term, you can call him Buffy. He won’t mind. That’s a girl name, but this is no girly cow. He’s Buff as in Buffalo, but more importantly, Buff as in having a strong, healthy body with lots of muscles.
This painting could easily inhabit a masculine space. The sides are painted a deep dark black brown. With the heavy use of charcoal on Buff’s coat, and the vibrant background colors of the sky and ground (which kind of turned into a football field), this painting screams manly.
I can’t help but think of rich leathers and colorful textiles when viewing this painting. Buff is a modern day bison, but he would have definitely been at home in the Old West.
